ED NORTON
Principal Landscape Architect

Ed is a Professional Landscape Architect (PLA) and also functions as a principal of HNP, with over 33 years of experience in athletic facility design, landscape design, site planning, and detailed site development. He hails from the great state of Louisiana, holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Louisiana State University, and maintains active registrations in Louisiana and Alabama. Ed has been both team member and team leader on numerous multidisciplinary design teams (comprised of landscape architects, architects and engineers), responsible for the design, contract document preparation and contract administration of a wide range of projects, both public and private. Ed’s interest in athletic turf/sports facility design has led him to an active role in various related associations, where he has served as a speaker to forums on the local, state and national levels. Ed’s passion for sports and design has propelled him to finding a niche in athletic facility design. His skill set(s) and experience is displayed throughout a versatile portfolio that consists of successfully completed designs for NCAA Division I facilities across seven different conferences. Whenever he has a spare minute, Ed loves to engage in woodworking and has logged countless hours improving his home.

CHRIS PUGH
Principal ​Landscape Architect

Chris is a Professional Landscape Architect (PLA) licensed in the state of Alabama, accredited with over 30 years of experience within the career field. He holds a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture from Auburn University, and has worked on projects ranging from small-scale design to large-scale land planning for residential, office, commercial and institutional developments. Lately, his primary focus has been in designing detailed hardscape-pedestrian spaces, such as amenity areas, plazas, courtyards and pedestrian corridors. Prior to joining HNP in 2003, Chris obtained valuable design experience through employment with other landscape architectural/land planning firms, in addition to a large multidisciplinary firm comprised of engineers, planners and landscape architects. He thoroughly enjoys gardening and landscape maintenance, as well as taking walks and hiking.

SEAN HUFNAGEL
 Principal ​Landscape Architect

​Sean is a Professional Landscape Architect (PLA) licensed in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee with a growing portfolio of experience spread across the Southeast US.  His unique pairing of both graphic design and landscape architecture skills began after obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Mississippi State University.  For seven years, Sean built a branding portfolio of print, environmental, and digital solutions.  Desiring to pair art and design with his love of nature, Sean earned a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Georgia and moved to Birmingham to join HNP in 2013.  After gaining valuable multi-family and park experience at Dix.Hite + Partners (2016-2019), Sean returned to HNP in 2019, aiming to continue serving clients with the firm's full-spectrum of award-winning design services.  Sean is blessed to experience life alongside his wife, Sarah, and three daughters.  All five pour as much life into school and church activities they can and when a weekend opens up, they hit the road with pop-up camper in tow to enjoy God's amazing creation.

MICHAEL O'BRIEN
Associate Landscape Architect

Michael is a Professional Landscape Architect (PLA) licensed in the state of Alabama, with over 15 years of design experience covering a broad variety of projects ranging from private residential design to large-scale land planning for commercial, institutional and multi-family developments. Prior to joining the HNP team in 2020, Michael obtained valuable professional experience with several landscape architecture firms located in the southeast as a Project Manager and Design Studio Leader.  His project management experience includes design team coordination, construction document production/review and construction observation for projects throughout the country. Michael has also developed a significant experience creating master plans and conceptual designs for projects of all scales. This accumulated body of knowledge provides him with expertise in all aspects of the profession including; hardscape design, planting design, grading and drainage, irrigation design, construction documentation and construction administration.

LEIGH ISOM
 Manager

Leigh joined HNP in 2008, bringing over 25 years of managerial and administrative experience to the team.  She maintains accounts payable, accounts receivable, monthly billing, and human resources for the firm. Notably, she is also a notary, which makes her an even more valuable asset and member of the HNP family. In her spare time, Leigh practices silk art, specializing in making custom prophetic banners and flags. She utilizes serti and watercolor techniques on silk habotai, and practices with a variety of free-flowing dyes. Leigh has a passion for travel and loves a good adventure.  Whether it is a week-long trip, or a day spent exploring, she can often be found outdoors enjoying God's beauty at work in nature.

DEVLON WARD
Designer

Devlon is native of Starkville, Mississippi, where he earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Mississippi State University. He feels fortunate to be a part of the Landscape Architecture profession; a rewarding profession full of varied expertise, projects, people, and environments. Devlon is inspired by his work's ability to improve the life and liberties of individuals, families, communities, cities, and even the world.  With this passionate outlook, Devlon aims to hone his professional land planning and sustainable design skills to create inspirational outdoor spaces for the people who inhabit them.  Devlon's greatest strength is his knowledge of residential carpentry, a skill passed down from his grandfather. This valuable field knowledge informs his design concepts and documentation, ensuring the design vision is not just an idea, but an idea that can be built. When not in the office, Devlon enjoys drawing charcoal, still-life portraits and oil painting with his wife and two daughters.

Wes is a recent graduate of Mississippi State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture in May of 2020. Growing up in northern Mississippi, Wes fell in love with the outdoors as he spent most of his time in the woods, on a lake, or on a golf course. This is what led him to pursue a career in Landscape Architecture. Wes is inspired by HNP's work and is excited and motivated to start his LA career. When not in office, he enjoys spending his time at sporting events, on a golf course, or traveling with his wife, Maddie.

TOMMY HOLCOMBE

Principal Emeritus

Tommy is a Professional Landscape Architect (PLA), influential member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and one of HNP’s founding principals. Possessing over 45 years of experience, he has backgrounds in landscape planning and design, master planning, and site/recreation planning and design, as well as institutional and urban design.  Tommy holds active registrations in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi, and has served the role of lead project landscape architect on numerous occasions, essentially making him responsible for all phases of project implementation. Extensive experience within landscape architecture has given Tommy a distinct feel for scale and detail on multiple levels, in addition to an esoteric understanding of construction processes and varied uses of building materials. Tommy is a graduate of the University of Georgia, holding a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) from the College of Environment + Design. The city of Athens, GA, holds a special place in his heart, as this is where he met his bride of 45 years, Dana, who is also a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in interior design. Tommy likes to keep moving and stays busy on and off the clock. He enjoys gardening, light construction projects around the house and spending time with his grandchildren.
