Huntsville Hospital is embracing a series of landscape enhancements designed to bring beauty, tranquility, and a stronger sense of community to its campus. At the heart of these improvements is the new Blackwell Garden, located in the courtyard at the base of the Blackwell Medical Tower. This healing garden offers a peaceful, restorative space featuring lush plantings, colorful blooms, and a soothing fountain. A pathway of brick pavers winds through the garden—each paver available for purchase as a meaningful way to honor loved ones.
HNP provided the design and planting plan for this thoughtful space, with the goal of creating a calming retreat for patients, families, and staff alike. Additional upgrades are also underway at the front lawn of the Huntsville Hospital Plaza Resource Building. HNP’s layout for the space includes seat walls, lighting, repurposed pavers, and a comprehensive planting design. The lawn will soon feature an expanded patio, ideal for hosting community events such as farmers markets and craft fairs. Plans also include a designated food truck parking area, further establishing the hospital as a gathering place within the community. A striking new element on the front lawn is the Moon Gate--a sculpture spanning more than 20 feet created by artist Glenn Dasher. This illuminated metal sphere is accented with planets and wind-driven spinners and is flanked by salvaged columns from the former Parkway City Mall. Programmable lighting enhances the sculpture, allowing it to reflect holidays and special events throughout the year. Learn more about artist Glenn Dasher and the inspiration behind Moon Gate here.
